Swachh Bharat Summer Internship organized in GDC Paloura
Govt. Degree College, Paloura organizes Ranking Ceremony of NCC Unit.

NCC cadets of 2nd J&K (Boys) Bn of GDC Paloura organized ranking ceremony under the guidance of NCC officer Prof. Rishi Kumar Rathore on the occasion, cadets were decorated with ranks of SUO, JUO & Sergeant and honoured with certificates who participated in Local RDC Parade.

Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the College, Prof. Dr Asha Gupta briefed cadets while focusing on the role of NCC for eradicating social evils from Society besides adopting discipline and unity. Prof. Sunita Gupta, Prof. Shalini Raina, Prof. Vijay Kumar, Prof. Priyanka, Prof. Neeru & Prof. Anju Rani were also present on the occasion and they also appreciated the efforts of the cadets.

Seminar on WASH organized in GDC Paloura

Jammu, March 7: A college level seminar on the topic, "Role of the youth in promoting water safety, conservation and proper sanitation" was organized by National Development Foundation with sponsorship from Communication and Capacity Development Unit, Department of PHE, I & FC in Govt. Degree College Paloura. Principal GDC Paloura Prof. Asha Gupta was the chief guest during the programme whereas Executive Engineer PHE Jammu City I Er. Himesh Manchanda was the guest of honour. Thirteen students participated in the seminar and expressed their views on importance and ways of water conservation. The seminar was witnessed by approx. 150 students. Prof. Sunita Gupta, Dr. Meenakshi Bandral and Ms. Sabina acted as judges during the seminar. State was conducted by Ms. Mumtaz. Other presents on the occasion include Er. Gopal Sharma from CCDU, Mr. Parvinder Singh Programme Manager NDF, college faculty and others.

Mr. Rohit bagged first position, Momen Malik bagged 2nd position and Mr. Mumtaz bagged the third position. Two consolation prizes were also given to the students. Prizes and certificates were distributed among all the participants. Water testing through Field testing kits was also demonstrated among the participants. Participants were also sensitized on water conservation, rain water harvesting and hygienic practices. A pledge on water safety and security was also taken by all the guests and participants. Executive Engineer Mr. Himesh Manchanda also interacted with the participants.

Principal, Prof. Asha Gupta speaking on the occasion stressed on the importance of saving the sources of water around us. She called upon the students to ensure safety and security of water resources and other water bodies. She quoted the examples of various water sources and ponds of Jammu city that have lost their existence.

GDC Paloura Jammu organizes Digital Payment Program (2017)

National cadet corps (NCC) of 2 J&K (boys) Bn. of Govt. Degree College Paloura, Jammu organized a Program on (DPP) Digital Payment Program. The main aim of the program was to aware the public regarding the utility of different digital payment methods of cashless transactions.

NCC officer Prof. Rishi Kumar delivered a motivational lecture regarding digital payment process which is integral part of Govt strategy to transform India into cashless economy.

Cadets also participated enthusiastically to make the program successful. On the occasion the other staff members were also present and Principal Dr Asha Gupta appreciated the efforts of cadets.

GDC, Jammu City, Paloura organizes 'Swachhta Pakwada'

NCC Cadets of 2 J&K (Boys) of Govt. Degree College, Jammu observed 'Swachhta Pakwada' on 14th December 2017 to aware the cadets about cleanliness which is an integral part of life. A motivational lecture was presented by NCC Officer Prof. Rishi Kumar and Prof. Kuldeep Sharma on Sanitation and cleanliness. The NCC Cadets launched a cleanliness campaign with in the college premises.

On this occasion the principal Dr. Asha Gupta and Prof. Anita Jamwal were present and appreciated the efforts of the cadets.

Gold medal in archery

The students of GDC Paloura bagged intercollegiate Archery Men Trophy by scoring 130 points out of total 360 points . Sajjad Hussain scored 54 points and bagged Gold Medal whereas Mustafa Ali scored 42 points and bagged silver medal in individual events.

Principal and all the faculty of GDC Paloura applauded and congratulated the students for their superb achievement.

"G.D.C. PALOURA organized workshop on Art and Craft"

Under the supervision of DEAN STUDENTS WELFARE Prof. Anita Jamwal GDC Jammu city Paloura organised Art and Craft workshop for four days w.e.f 13/09/2017 to 16/09/2017 in collaboration with PIDILITE under skill development programme. The expert Ms. Antima Manhas from PIDILITE trained the students for making different items like decorative pieces, photo or mirror frames, fabric paintings etc and taught how to make best use of waste material for making of different items.
The students and teachers took keen interest and actively participated in the workshop. The Principal Dr. Asha Gupta lauded the efforts of the art and craft teacher, students and promised that these types of workshop should be organized in future for the welfare of the students.

Govt. Degree College Jammu City Paloura celebrated Hindi Diwas

Govt. Degree College Jammu City Paloura celebrated Hindi Saptah w.e.f. 9th sept. To 14th sept. 2017. On 9th sept. an essay writing, story writing and Quiz programme was held .A poetry recitation and symposium on “Role of Hindi as a National Language “ were organized on 14th sept.. A large number of students participated in these events with great zeal and prizes were distributed to the participants. On this occasion college Principal Dr. Asha Gupta was the Chief Guest. Prof.. Sunita Gupta was the Co-ordinator of the function . All the staff members were also present on this occasion.

Govt. Degree College paloura Lifted Inter Collegiate Fencing Men’s Touranment

Students of Govt. Degree College Paloura shines in intercollegiate Fencing tournament organized by the University of Jammu. They lifted the fencing championship trophy by bagging gold medal in Foil team event, Sabre team event and Epee team event.
The tournament was held at the Gymnasium indoor hall of the university of Jammu on 11th and 12th September.
The students also brought laurels for the college by winning medals in individual events also. Mohd. Muzamal and Vikrant singh charak won silver and bronze medal in Epee respectively. Arun Kumar and Parvinder Singh won silver and bronze medal in Foil respectively. Hardeep Bhagat and Vikrant Singh Charak won silver and bronze medal in Sabre respectively. The principal Dr. Asha Gupta and staff members of the college congratulated the participants and their PTI Manish Charak for their achievement.

G.D.C. JAMMU CITY PALOURA CELEBRATED TEACHERS DAY

Under the supervision of Cultural Committee of GDC Jammu City (Paloura) has celebrated Teacher’s Day on the birth of Dr. Radha Krishnan, President of India today on 5th September,2017. A Cultural Programme was organised by the students of the college and some speakers(students) have highlighted the role of the teacher in the society and throw a light on the life history and contribution of Dr. Radha Krishnan for the nation. Principal of the college Dr. Asha Gupta has given blessings to the students and teachers.

An Athletic Team of Govt. Degree College, Paloura, participated in Inter-College Cross Country which was organized by University of Jammu on 22nd of August, 2017 Mr. Riaz Ahmed won the silver medal. Gandhian Global Family held a symposium in G.D.C, Jammu City, Paloura on Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Present Times

An inter-college symposium on the topic “Relevance of Gandhian Philosophy in Present Time” was organized by Govt. Degree College, Plaoura. Padamshree Dr. S.P Verma, Vice President, Gandhian Global Family was the chief Guest on the occasion the function was presided over by Dr. AjeetAngral, Nodal Principal, G.G.M Science College. The programme began with welcome address by Prof. ShashiPrabha, Head Department of English speaking on the occasion, Dr. S.P Verma motivated students to promote UN 17 sustainability goals by becoming peace ambassadors of the college. Nodal Principal Dr. AjeetAngral, in his presidential address emphasized the importance of Gandhian philosophy in student’s life.
Principal Prof. Rita Bhagat encourages the participants to give their best. Participants from six different colleges participated in the symposium. Symposium was adjudged by Prof. Sunita Gupta, Prof. M. S Saini and Prof RajniBhagat. The first Position was bagged by Ms. Sangpriya Sharma of GCW Parade, Ms. Mumtaz of GDC, Paloura got Second Prize and Ms. NitinBakshi of G.G. M Sc. College got Third Prize.

An Athletic Team of Govt. Degree College, Paloura, participated in Inter-College Annual Athletic Meet which was organized by University of Jammu on 7th – 9th of March 2017. Two students of GDC, Paloura namely Mohd.Saif BA.Sem.VI won Gold in Drill Competition and Rohit Kumar BA.Sem.IV won Two Golds in Drilland Debate in their respective groups in National Integration Camp (NIC.I) held at Tezpur, Assam w.e.f. 19-12-2016 to 30-12-2016bring laurels to the college and posing for a photograph with the Principal Prof. Rita Bhagatand Dr. Mool Raj (NCC officer).

GDC Paloura organized poster making Competition on AIDS awareness

Red Ribbon club of the college GDC Paloura organized a poster making competition on AIDS awareness under the supervision of Red Ribbon Club committee members Dr. M. S. Saini, Prof. Anuradha Choudhary, Prof. Minakshi Thakur, Prof. Anjeela Qureshi NSS Programme Officer of the college in which a number of students participated and spread the message of AIDS awareness among the other students and other participants through posters. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan was held in GDC Paloura, Jammu

The NSS Volunteer of GDC Paloura conducted a cleanliness drive in the college campus on 6th of Oct’ 2016 and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Rally was flagged off by the Principal Prof. Rita Bhagat and staff members of the college on 07/10/2016. The rally was accompanied by the NSS officer Prof. Anjeela Qureshi and other staff members of the college. The students were holding placards of clean Jammu and Green Jammu and it passes through different lanes around the adjouning area and culminated in the college ground

GDC Paloura Celebrated Teachers Day

Students of Govt. Degree College, Paloura celebrated Teachers Day on the 128thbirth of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnanformer President of India today on 5th of September, 2016. Management Committee of the programme and a group of students presented a bouquet to the Principal, Prof Rita Bhagat, on this occasion. Speakers from the students also highlighted the role of the teacher in the society and threw light on the life history and contribution of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan for the nation. A colourful Cultural programme and Punjabi Bhangara was presented by the students of the college.Staff and large number of students were present on the occasion. Principal of the college has given blessing to the students and inspired facultyto follow the footsteps of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

GDC Jammu City Paloura Celebrated Prize Distribution function

Govt. Degree College Jammu City Paloura celebrated Prize Distribution functiobn today on 20 th May 2016 under the dynamic leadership of Mrs Narayani Jamwal, Physical Director of the College. Students begged six Gold medals in Inter Collegiate and Inter District tournaments and nine students participated in Inter-University and Sr. National Level tournaments in different events. In these tournaments students/Player bagged eighteen silver medals and fourteen Bronze medals. Miss Shivangi Jamwal Part IIIrd and Riaz Mohd of Part-III were adjudged best player in all the three years by the Sports committee. Prof. M.S.Saini, Sports Convener read the Annual Sports-activities report and welcome the audience. Prof. Rita Bhagat, Principal of the College distributed the mementoes and appreciated the medal winners and wished success in their future endeavors.

The winners were given track suits and mementoes as a token of honour. Prof. Sabina Bashir presented vote of thanks.

Farewell Party organized in GDC Paloura

A farewell Party was organized by the students of B.A-II in favour of B.A –III
students in G.D.C Jammu City Paloura in Presence of Principal and staff Members.

The students of B.A –II have performed different Cultural activities during the function. Mr. Arbaaz and Ms.Shivangi Jamwal have been titled as Mr. and Miss. GDC Paloura respectively. The Principal  Prof. Rita Bhagat addressed the students and blessed them for their bright future and advised them for hard-work with full dedication

 

GDC Paloura Honours the NCC Cadets who participated in Republic Day Parade AT DG, NCC, New Delhi

Prof. Rita Bhagat, Principal of the college and Dr. Geetanjli Rajput, NCC Officer, honours the NCC Cadets on 9th of Feb., 2016 for their excellent performance in Republic Day Parade, 2016 at New Delhi. Senior Under Officer, Manjeet Kumar and Cadet Naresh Mehra were assigned duty in flag area and they also participated in PM Rally. Cadet Vikramjeet Singh won silver medal for his performance in Ballad ‘ANMOL’ and also participated in PM Rally. Cadet Hardev Singh was selected for presenting Guard of Honour. These NCC cadets also participated in various other activities/competitions and were honoured by presenting momentoes. Cadet Sunil Chakaria, Cadet Ridam Bharati and Cadet.Abhishek participated in local Republic Day Parade, 2016 at M.A. Stadium, Jammu. These NCC cadets were honoured with medals.

Inter-College Symposium

Mr. Rohit Kumar and Mr. Vikas Koul of B.A. Sem-II of GDC, Paloura were adjudged as the best speakers in the Inter-College Symposia on the topic “National Security – Is it the concern of uniform fraternityonly ?” held at Govt. women College, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. They received momentoes and also cash prize of Rs. 1000/- each. Principal Rita Bhagat, Dr. Geetanjli Rajput Co-convener Debates and Seminar Committee and participants posing for a photograph after bringing laurels to the institution.

Voters Pledge held at GDC (Paloura)

On the occasion of Voter’s Day a voter’s pledge was held in the premises of GDC Paloura on 25th of January 2016 where in the students took pledge that they will cast their vote fearlessly for the betterment of the country without considering religion, caste, creed, language or any inducement. The Principal of the college Prof. Rita Bhagat highlighted the importance of the vote in the Democratic country and the staff members were also present during the pledge.

Role of youth in the society

A seminar was held in GDC Paloura on “Role of youth in the society” in which Madam Principal Prof. Rita Bhagat was the chief guest. The six students of the college spoke on the topic in detail and stressed upon the youth to play a very important role to build the healthy society which was the dream of Swami Vivekananda ji. The programme was organized by NSS unit and Red Ribbon Club of the College and supervised by Prof Anjeela Qureshi NSS Programme Officer and Prof. M.S.Saini nodal officer Red Ribbon Club, Prof. Anuradha Chowdhary, Prof Meenakshi Thakur members of the Red Ribbon Club unit of the college. The prizes were distributed among the speakers by the Principal. Madam Principal directed the students to work hard and achieve their life goal and ready to carry responsibilities of the society. So that we can survive in a healthy society. Vote of thanks was presented by Prof Anjeela Qureshi.

Chander Deva Singh B.A.-I Semester won gold Medal
Chander Deva Singh B.A.-I Semester won gold Medal (in Walter weight) in Inter-College boxing Competition which was held in police line organized by Jammu University sports Deptt. and Nitish Kumar of B.A.- III Year won Bronze Medal (in Light weight Balveer) in the tournament held on 16TH of Jan, 2016.The students posing photograph with college (Principal) Prof. Rita Bhagat, Prof. M.S. Saini (Sports Convener) and Ms. Narayani Jamwal (Physical Director) of the college. The Principal appreciated the students and inspired to keep it up in the future also.
GDC Paloura won Gold in Judo
Mr. Akshay Choudhary of GDC Paloura won gold medal in 66 Kg wt. Category in Judo competition organized by J&K Judo Association under the aegis of J&K sports council and J&K Olympic association held at M.A. Stadium Jammu on 19th of Oct 2015. Government Degree College Jammu City Paloura participated in Inter-collegiate College Archery Competition (Men & Women) tournament which was held in Jammu University on 5th & 6th of October, 2015 organized by Directorate of Sports & Physical Education University of Jammu. In Men Section Government Degree College Jammu City Paloura got 2nd Position in Inter-collegiate (Men) Archery Competition in which Sajjad Hussain got individual Bronze Medal in (Men) Archery team. In Women Section Government Degree College Jammu City Paloura got 3rd Position in Inter-collegiate College Competition in which Deepa Devi got individual Silver Medal as a best shooter. GDC Paloura celebrated “Gandhi Jayanti” with Patriotic fervor and zeal
GDC Paloura celebrated “Gandhi Jayanti” with Patriotic fervor and zeal . A floral Tribute was paid to Gandhiji by the Principal and staff members. On this occasion Bhajans, Patriotic songs and symposium “On Gandhian Philosophy of Non- violence and Satayagraha” was held. In symposium Mr. Sharnam Sharma won the first prize Miss. Sonia and Rohit got the 2nd and 3rd prize respectively. Principal Prof. Rita Bhagat while addressing urged the students to follow the footprints and teachings of Gandhi ji in their daily life.The Programme was organized by the cultural committee of College comprising of Dr. Seema Sudan, Prof. Anita Jamwal, Prof. Meenakshi Thakur and Prof. Anuradha Choudhary. The event was judged by Prof. Sabina Bashir, Prof. Pooja and Prof. Swati.

Government Degree College Jammu City Paloura celebrated Hindi Diwas on 28th September, 2015 on this occasion Calligraphy, Poetry recitations and Quiz Competition was held. The students participated in these events with great zeal and enthusiasms in calligraphy Diksha Parihar, Amit Kumar and Ankush Kumar got 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize respectively. In quiz competition team ‘B’ was adjudged the winner. The programme was held under the supervision of Principal Prof. Rita Bhagat while addressing the students and the teachers the Principal urged the students to contribute in the promotions of Hindi language Prof. (Dr.) Seema Sudan conducted the proceedings of the function.

CELEBRATION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF YOGA AT GDC JAMMU CITY (PALOURA).
NSS unit of GDC (Paloura) has organized a Yoga camp for celebration of International Day of Yoga on 21st of June 2015 in the College premises. Members of Patanjali Yoga Samiti under the Leadership of Prof. Uma Sharma Vice President of J&K State delivered a Lecture on the history and importance of Yoga and demonstrated on Physical and Breathing exercises to make us feel active, energetic and positive. Yoga also works on the body, mind, emotions and energy.
Principal Prof. Savitri Sharma has appreciated the demonstrators and hope that all the participants will do all Yoga Asana in future also to keep themselves physically and mentally fit.

G.D.C Jammu City (Paloura) has organized a function to felicitate the students who won the gold, silver and bronze medals in different sports competitions which were held at different venues like inter-collegiate, inter-district and inter-state competitions. The prizes were distributed among the students by the principal of the college Dr. Savitri Sharma who was the chief guest on this occasion.
Mrs. Narayani Jamwal (Physical director), Dr. Jugal Kishore Sharma, (dean Students welfare), Prof. M.S .Saini (convener sports committee),Dr. Seema Sudan(Staff-Secretary),Prof. Karan Singh Bhau (co-convener), Prof. Swati Bhagat and Prof. Anjeela Quareshi (Members sports committee) were also present on the occasion.
 
FARWELL PARTY ORGANIZED IN GDC PALOURA
A farewell Party was organized by the students of B.A-II in favour of B.A –III students in G.D.C Jammu City Paloura in Presence of Principal and staff Members.The students of B.A –II have performed different Cultural activities during the function. Mr. Digvijay Singh Jamwal and Ms.Heena Verma have been titled as Mr. and Miss. GDC Paloura respectively. A Ghazal night was organized by GDC Paloura in the Rajinder Singh Auditorium of Jammu University. Prof. M.P.S.Isher, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University was the Chief Guest and his wife Mrs. Linda Singh Isher was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. The event started with a Saraswati Vandana which was liked by all. A renowned singer of Jammu City, Mr. Jeevan Sharma and his group comprising of other six talented artists performed during the event. All the artists gave the scintillating performance which left the audience spell bound. Principal of GDC Paloura, Prof. Hemla Aggarwal, Dr. Anurag Gangal, Director Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.

Valedictory Function of National Seminar Gandhi & World Peace
The Valedictory function of 2 days’ seminar was organized by Govt. Degree College, Paloura City in collaboration with Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, Jammu University held on 28th Feb 2012 Vice Chancellor Central University Jammu Dr S.S. Beloeria was the chief guest for the occasion. He said that Non-violence and truth are two principles to solve all problems and challenges in the World successfully. Prof. Savita Singh Honorary Prof. of Political IGNOU and former Director of Gandhi Samiti and Darshan Samiti in her Valedictory note dealt on the life of Mahatma and urged the gathering that Gandhi should be lived in real life. Professor Anurag Gangal, Head Department of Political Science and Director of Gandhian Centre welcomed the guests. Prof. B. B. Anand organizing secretary of the seminar in which more than 36 papers were presented and deliberated upon in different sessions which included “Major conflict and world peace”, “Population , Poverty, Pollution and Proliferation of Armaments”, “Conflict between India and Pakistan”. Major findings and suggestions of this seminar included B .A Honours and  M .A. in Gandhian  Studies  must be started by introducing and launching Gandhian Studies Department in every University of India. Gandhian studies and principles of life are becoming ever more relevant even in the areas of management sending medical sciences, engineering vocational, and profession education as well. Moral and ethical education of civil society on Gandhian lines is the only option before the world to save itself form ultimate social, political and complete  extension. Gandhian philosophy and its principles are also highly relevant to deal not only with corruption in the corridors of power but also in the area of modern information and communication and technology. The only answer to the nuclear threat to day is also found mainly in the Gandhian principles of non-violence and truth. Last but not least, Gandhian philosophy is not  utopian but it  helps in every step of life every day not only for  individual but also for national, international and global civil society because the essence of this philosophy is dignity of the individual on the basis of equality  and duty found freedom. GDC Paloura organized an extension lecture on Gender Sensitisation.

The Women Development Cell and Equal Opportunity Cell of GDC Paloura organized an extension lecture on Gender Sensitisation. The resource person on the occasion was Ms. Meera Khanna who runs a voluntary NGO and is also Vice Chairperson Kashmir Intervention. She delivered at length about various divisions in society such as those based on language, religion, region and above all a forced division i.e, one based on gender. The women face domestic violence, sexual harassment, molestation, eve-teasing etc. Though there are laws to contain these evils but these are not effective. These laws are reactive measures but what we need are certain pro-active measures to change our vision and perspective. She also spoke about how women have been objectified and commodified. In advertising world, the body of woman is used to promote articles such as cars, tyres, medicines, cement, pins etc. she explained how the condition of women was worse in strife torn states where they suffer from various disabilities.

Several women have been rendered destitute and several have been widowed. The students interacted with the resource person and asked her questions on psychological impact of armed conflict on women. Earlier the Principal of the college Prof. Hemla Aggarwal welcomed the guest and exhorted the students to participate in such animated discussions so that their information and knowledge about these burning issues may increase. The introductory address was given by Prof. Madhu Gupta and vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Nisha Bhagat.

Workshop on "Education of Persons with special needs" held at at Govt. Degree College Paloura
A one day workshop on “Education of Persons with special needs” was organized at Govt. Degree College Paloura on 2nd on Feb.2012. The programme was presided over by the Principal Prof. Dr. Hemla Aggarwal. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Dr. Ashwani Jojra, President Sahyog India. Dr. D. R. Kapoor ,chairman  Sahyog India, also graced the occasion. In his inaugural address Dr. Jojra recounted the efforts made by Sahyog India. He explained the provisions of the disability certificate, its utility and problems in getting it despite all the facilities provided by the state Government. He also briefed about the limits of disability. In the end, he said that our efforts in this field should not be like rain on the slopy land. It should be result oriented.
The resource persons on the occasion were Prof. Rajinder Praveen from MIER College and Sh. Joginder Chattarpal, President Viklang Chattr Trust . Prof. Rajinder Praveen told the students about the types of children with special needs and educational provisions like residential schools, integrated education etc. made by the Government to facilitate their achievements and retentions. Sh. Joginder Chattarpal shared his personal experiences with the students and also suggested the students to organize programmes for their development instead of charity .
Dr. D.R. Kapoor, in the end, appreciated the efforts made by GDC, Paloura for organizing this kind of event which is generally an ignored area in the Higher Education and he also in his concluding remark  praised the presentation made by Prof. Rajinder Praveen and Sh. Joginder Chattarpal

GDC Paloura organized an interactive seminar on "Promotion of Science through Media" in collaboration with J&K Students Welfare Society, Anantnag and Indian Science Congress Association Jammu Chapter. Prof. R.D.Sharma Dean Academics Affairs, University of Jammu was the chairperson on the occasion. Mr. Sanjeet Khajuria, News Editor, DD News Jammu, Mr. Balram Saini, Bureau Chief Punjab Kesari and Mr. Mohit Kandhari , Special Correspondent, The Pioneer were the resource persons on the occasion. The students of different seven City Colleges participated in the seminar.

 

Principal of the college Prof. Hemla Aggarwal started the seminar by formally welcoming the guests. In her address she stressed upon the need for the coordination of media with the promotion of advancements of science and technology. She also highlighted the importance of organizing this seminar which aims at encouraging intelligent debate on this particular issue. Mr. Sanjeet Khajuria, News Editor, DD News Jammu, talked of the need of reaching out to the grass root level by planning simple scientific programmes to educate the local masses. He also highlighted that now a days political arena is overpowering all the media columns which is hampering the growth of other issues like science and technology.

Mr. Balram Saini, Bureau Chief, Punjab Kesari, in his address stressed that the programmes on science should be made more spicy and simple to attract maximum audience. He said that curiosity should be developed among common masses by making scientific programmes more interesting and attractive. Mr. Mohit Kandhari, Special Correspondent, The Pioneer, emphasized on the promotion of ideas to bring out the change. He pointed out that media is purely a science which is completely based on research work. He further stressed on encouraging science festivals in our state to promote and develop scientific temperament among the general masses. Later on an interaction session was held in which all the students participated actively and raised a number of questions on various issues concerning the role of media in educating the people. A healthy debate took place which stirred the minds of all the participants.

 

In the end Prof. R.D.Sharma, Dean Academics Affairs, University of Jammu presented the concluding remarks wherein he congratulated the Principal of the college and other organizers for taking the initiative for holding such kind of interactive seminars. He also informed the audience that Jammu University is working hard for the promotion of science by giving scholarships and funds to various colleges and Departments to develop science labs. Jammu University is also promoting the science subjects by starting new subjects in this area at other campuses. Mr. Shabir Ahmed Shabir, Secretary J&K Students Welfare Soiciety, Anantnag presented vote of thanks. The proceedings of the programme were conducted by Prof. Nisha Bhagat.

Extension lecture on “Delivery System of Assistive Technology in J&K” held at G.D.C. Paloura

Equal Opportunity Cell of GDC Paloura organized an extension lecture on “Delivery System of Assistive Technology in J&K” on 17-01-2012. Mr. Vinod Kumar Misra was the resource person for the occasion. Principal of the college Prof. (Dr) Hemla Aggarwal began the programme by formally welcoming the resource person and highlighted the necessity of organizing such kind of activities for understanding the needs of various disabled persons. Mr. Mishra,Astt. General Manager & Head Q.A.C.Division Central Electronics division, in his address, talked about the concept of disability which is a natural part of human experience which adversely affects the capacity of an individual to participate in the social activities. People all over the world including J&K are affected by this phenomenon and many of them also face social exclusion. He deliberated in detail about Assistive Technique which enables the differently disabled people to overcome the limitations and also assists them to live independently, enjoy self determination, make choices, to get benefitted from education and to pursue meaningful careers.

 

He also informed students that J&K is having the highest percentage of disabled population among all states of India due to several reasons which also includes terrorism. In the year 2001-02-03, 04-05, there was no delivery of Assistive Techniques to any individual with disability and J&K has extremely low coverage in this particular area. He ended his lecture by encouraging the students to empathise with the needs of disabled people and contribute towards their well being.

On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, GDC Paloura organized a plantation drive in the college campus.

On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, GDC Paloura organized a plantation drive in the college campus. DFO, Urban Forestry, Mr. Naveen Shah was the chief guest on the occasion. Principal GCET, Prof. Bhupinder Singh and Principal GDC Paloura, Prof. Hemla Agarwal were also present on the occasion. Mr. Naveen Shah launched the plantation drive by planting a Chinar Tree in the college premises. More than 200 saplings were planted on the occasion. According to Mr. Naveen Shah Environment and ecology are part and parcel of our life and because of industrialization and technology,  our environment is degrading day by day. He also emphasized that it is high time that we must understand the importance of conserving ecology otherwise it will be very difficult for the future generation to survive on this planet.

In her address Principal GDC Paloura, Prof. (DR.)Hemla Agarwal highlighted the importance of environment in our day to day life and also narrated a story on Gandhi’s Love for Trees. More than 200 students of the college participated in the event and it was also decided that in the future college will organize such kind of frequent environmental activities in the college. The developmental work for this particular project and trees were sponsored by Mr. Ajay Vaid.

The students of GDC Paloura participated in Athletic Meet organised by the J&K Police Department wherein Nitish Bakshi secured 2nd position in 100 mtrs race. Another student of B.A.2nd year of the college Surekha Rani got 3rd position in 800 mtrs race. Principal of the college Prof. (Dr) Hemla Agarwal congratulated and encouraged the students for their performances in respected events.
